![]() What recurrent costs are needed to keep the service running? Real question. They're not hosting the podcasts, they're not streaming the content, they're just a search engine. Let's not pretend like THEIR costs are going up. Why do I need to pay a subscription now, then? I've been charged for Plus for the last two years.ĭue to inflation, everything is going up. You don’t need to do anything to activate this. If you’ve ever paid for the web app, you have a lifetime access to Pocket Casts Plus for free. How do you do this?" I understand if you don't use it, but most of the people I know get MOST of their entertainment from YouTube, so, I don't understand why they don't want to support the platform of the creators they like.Įdit: okay now i'm pissed, when they switched to a subscription model they said Even to the point of insulting me, "No fucking way I'm paying for YouTube, that shit's free, only an idiot would pay for that." I'm on the other end, I go to someone's house and they pull up YouTube and an ad starts I'm like, "Whoa. YouTube Premium is the one that most people straight up don't understand. I know people think it's dumb, but I use their products A LOT and I'm fine supporting them. ![]() I also regularly throw some money (not a lot, $3-$5) every other month or so to Signal and to Wikipedia. Like I said, before they even introduced the subscription tier I went and tried a few others, including Apple's stock Podcasts app (PURE GARBAGE) and it never takes me long to come back to Pocket Casts. Yeah, the app has so many good features and the UI is really nice. For me, there really isn't a replacement for Pocket Casts, not yet anyway I've used them all and I keep coming back to Pocket Casts. Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, whatever the hell YouTube thinks it's doing, even some of the bigger ones like Stitcher, Overcast, etc. Again, that's every single time we go, not once a year.Īt the end of the day, it also comes down to product why I will continue to pay. Restuarants, they're not $10-$15 for the exact same meal we'd get last year around this time. A fast food meal, identical to one last year, for me and my wife is $3-$5 more than it was last year. Due to inflation, everything is going up. $14.99 is definitely worth it for me, considering everything is going up right now. I also have a second job delivering pizzas in the evenings and weekends, so, I'm always buds-in. I work at a call center and in-between calls and breaks and lunches I listen. I, like most of the members of this sub, listen to podcasts more than any other form of entertainment. I'm never excited when a service provider increases their prices, but I do feel that even at the $14.99/year price, Pocket Casts is still the best experience you can come across. I understand that for a lot of users, this is egregious and uncalled for.
